The HNM/StarScan systemincludes a CMIP manager, providing CMISE compliance, for the managementof SONET and other network devices that utilize CMIP. LANs and WANs areeasily incorporated using the SNMP manager for TCP/IP and SNA manager forIBM NetView. HNM/StarScan's 4GL scripting language provides managementof network devices utilizing proprietary protocols. The 4GL scriptinglanguage also provides management of network devices utilizing non-proprietary protocols such as TBOS and TABS. HNM/StarScan provides anExpert System Interface permitting automated responses to network alarms.An application Programmers Interface is used to enable the end-user todevelop applications that interface to HNM/StarScan. With HNM/StarScan,operators no longer need to memorize an array of codes and commands tomanage a network. Point-and-click mouse operations allow the operator toaccess detailed pull-down menus and update data fields. These featuresallow HNM/StarScan to integrate numerous network devices into one networkmanagement system.HNM/StarScan operates on the UNIX Operating System and adds Open SoftwareFoundation (OSF)/Motif and X Window System presentation software, alongwith an industry-standard relational database engine.
